treatment
For the final section of the development stage, we were required to present our final concept on sugar paper which had to include all the relevant information about our horror film. this includes features such as the synopsis, working title, locations, props and character profiles to give the audience a basic idea of what the film is about and what it will include. we also included our film influences which will play a huge role in the development of our film and theories such a todorov and propp although our treatment generally covers burton's theory. we used these theories to cover the beginning, middle and end of the film as well as the difference between each of the characters. Sophie was in charge of making our treatment look as creative as possible whilst the rest of us worked on different ways to apply the theories to our film and develop the character profiles and narrative. we also included our production team logo so that we are recognized by our target audience.
final treatment
movie title
the title of our film is 'i hear you' which has been made pretty clear as it is the dominant piece of text on the page. our choice of font for the film title is quite simplistic as we chose to give the title a modern look to it which our target audience might actually prefer. to make it more aesthetically pleasing, we displayed some creativity as we replaced the letter 'E' in the word 'Hear' with an actual ear which we used to basically denote the whole hearing concept of the film. also, we incorporated a pointing finger in the word 'you' which enforces a 3d effect and appears to interact with the reader.
character profiles
At the left hand side of the poster is the character profile. We set it out as image, name of the character then profile underneath the name in order for the poster to look well organized and straight forward. each image gives the reader and idea of how the characters may look and the profile describes each character in quite a bit of detail whilst using propp's theory; all the relevant information that the readers need to know about them.
Our Characters are:
Our Characters are:
- Scarlet Roscoe (aka 'scar'let) - The antagonist
- Michael Blake - The hero
- Leo Johnson - the helper
- Philip Clinton - the false hero
- Jessica Black - The princess
film influence
We put the film influence at the top left hand side of the poster as we thought that they were extremely important and played a huge part in the development of our concept. We presented 3 images of the movies that inspired us which are:
1. hostel
2. sorority Row
3. i spit on your grave
Furthermore, we explained each of them and how they inspired us. for example, sorority row gave us the aspect of a signature weapon being used to kill the victims while 'i spit on your grave' inspired us by having a female antagonist seeking revenge on her attackers.
todorov's theory
synopsisas the initial synopsis needed some work after receiving feedback from the class, we stuck with the structure and main story line of sophie's narrative but also included aspects of brandi's initial synopsis such as the chelsea smile and majority of the character personalities to make the narrative a bit more intriguing as it would include more horrific events; making the audience feel uneasy.
location & target audiencethis section included our main locations where we plan on filming our horror trailer. it included areas such as the main hall which is our location for part of the equilibrium whereas the changing room is most likely to be where the disequilibrium takes place so is one of the most significant locations for our trailer because it is where scarlett, our antagonist first gets attacked so the horror commences. we also stated that our target audience is young adults from the age of 16+ so we know exactly what to include in our trailer to intrigue them and who we could be going to for answers when it comes to the audience research.

propsour props list was mainly inspired by the hostel franchise as the victims were tortured in a tool room where they were unable to escape and these rooms included several different tools which we may not see in our everyday lives which made their situation even more terrifying which is why we decided to include many usual, dangerous torture weapons such as a mitre saw, ear clamp and a curved knife.
theme & sub-genreon our treatment, we stated that our theme was revenge and survival as our antagonist scarlett seeks revenge on the people who are responsible for her attack but the protagonists are fighting for survival as they try to escape from scarlett and her plans for them. also, the sub-genre for our horror film is 'splatter' so for our final products, we would need to incorporate as much blood as possible and include horrifying, surreal and revolting scenes as we are capable of creating. this way, we would be able to appeal to our target audience more.

logo development
evidently, we carried out several experiments, trying to make our logo look as eye catching as possible. after the first two drafts, we had established the main idea for our logo which is the circular element with scratches in it to emphasize our production team name but we thought that they looked a bit boring and not eye-catching enough so we did more drafts. for the third draft, we changed the font completely and made the background slightly darker but then the red font was quite difficult to see so we changed it to white. however, after a few weeks, we got some feedback on our logo and we were told that the scratches within the font was a bit too much as there were already scratches in the background so we changed the font again. we think our final logo would appeal to our target audience as it is very simply and is easily recognizable.
